On the day of the SAT Design Store opening, we hosted a workshop led by New York University Abu Dhabi’s (NYUAD) Plastic Recycling Lab Director Khulood Al Awadi and Architect/Maker Guillaume Crédoz. The workshop began with an introduction from Khulood on Precious Plastics, a global community changing the perception of plastics from waste to viable resources, followed by Guillaume, who presented production processes of recycled plastics used in his practice Bits to Atoms. Together they demonstrated analogue 3D printing of plastic waste using open source machines from NYUAD‘s plastic recycling lab.
Participants learnt how to operate the lab’s machines to create their own products made from recycled plastic, gaining a better understanding of the material and how they can be involved in both sourcing and utilizing it.
