As a next step to the seed germination workshop held in July, this activity involved having the participants from the previous workshop replant their seedlings into larger pots to accommodate and encourage their growth. The children had the chance to share their observations of their germinating seedlings and discuss the factors that aided in their growth as well as deterrents to the same. The workshop provided an opportunity to learn about the physical steps involved in preparing for a plant’s continued development and also reinforced scientific lessons about the needs for plant growth through real-time observation of the same. Furthermore, the specificity of the species of seeds and their relevance to the local context ensured that the children could take the seedlings home and integrate them into their domestic environments and, in turn, into the urban fabric of the neighbourhood of Al Manakh.
