Ahmed Morsi
Ahmed Morsi is a trained architect and curator whose work spans architecture, writing, publishing, painting, and video. Much of his interests and work explore themes around the spatialization of dissidence and the politics of dilapidation. His master’s thesis, completed in 2020, traced the social, theoretical, and technical history and evolution of adaptive reuse, focusing on the interplay between dissident cultural spaces and arts-led urban development, and received the Fondazione Prada “Premio di Laurea” award. In 2021, Ahmed co-founded Dataland Publications, a non-periodical print publication that opens conversations around the reuse of Cairo’s existing building stock amidst rapid new development. He later earned a postgraduate certificate in curation at Zurich University of the Arts followed by a curatorial fellowship at Fondazione Prada in Milan. Ahmed hopes to contribute to SAT’s approach to adaptive reuse through his current role as Architect and Program Coordinator where he works on planning, designing, and managing the adaptive reuse of the foundation’s venues. His role also involves engaging in the preparation and production of future triennial editions through liaising with participants and curators. When not in Sharjah, Ahmed divides his time between Cairo and New York City.

أحمد مرسي معماري وقيّم فني، يتوزع عمله بين العمارة والكتابة والنشر والرسم والفيديو. تتناول أعماله واهتماماته موضوعات تتصل بالعلاقة بين الفضاء العام والتمرد وسياسات الخراب. أنجز أطروحته للماجستير عام 2020، متتبعاً التاريخ الاجتماعي والنظري والتقني لتطور مفهوم إعادة التوظيف التكيفي، مع تركيز خاص على التفاعل بين المساحات الثقافية المتمردة والتنمية الحضرية التي تحفزها الفنون، وقد نال عنها جائزة فونداسيوني برادا. شارك عام 2021 في تأسيس داتالاند، وهي مطبوعة غير دورية تُعنى بفتح النقاش حول إعادة استخدام المباني القائمة في القاهرة في ظل تحولاتها العمرانية المتسارعة. نال لاحقاً شهادة عليا في التقييم الفني للمعارض من جامعة الفنون في زيورخ، أعقبتها زمالة في التقييم لدى مؤسسة برادا في ميلانو. من خلال دوره الحالي كمعماري ومنسق للبرامج في ترينالي الشارقة للعمارة، يطمح إلى الإسهام في بلورة نهج الترينالي حيال إعادة الاستخدام التكيفي، عبر تخطيط وتصميم وإدارة عمليات إعادة توظيف مباني المؤسسة. كما يشمل عمله المشاركة في إعداد وإنتاج الدورات القادمة الترينالي من خلال التنسيق مع المشاركين والقيّمين. يقضي وقته خارج الشارقة متنقلاً بين القاهرة ونيويورك.
